Madeleine Stamer

Madeleine Stamer is a Melbourne illustrator, exhibiting artist, visual arts teacher and mother.

Madeleine’s entrepreneurial spirit has seen her translate her work into beautiful and bold designs such as prints, objects and jewellery from her design studio Little Circus.

Her unmistakable works draw inspiration from folk art, nature, old school tattoos, 70′s design and the natural world around her. Her designs comprise of gentle yet slightly surreal imagery that delivers an edgy punch. Madeleine’s folk infused style has been described as captivating meditations on life and death, nature and culture. Part tattoo, part Australiana, part pattern, her works take the eye on an excursion along a decorative, dark and highly idiosyncratic line.

About

During the 1990's Madeleine Stamer studied Architectural Ceramics at Monash University. She later enrolled in a Master of Fine Art degree at Monash where she honed in on making large scale and highly decorative sculptural ceramic pieces. Armed with a passion for surface design, colour, pattern and building upon textural layers Madeleine ultimately turned her attention to painting and illustration using mixed media.

For the past 20 years Madeleine has balanced working part time as an art educator at prominent Melbourne schools as well as maintain her studio practice. Madeleine balances family, exhibiting and creating small runs of limited edition and open edition prints, art pieces and collaborative projects from her shared studio with Lantern Printing in Gardenvale, Melbourne.

Madeleine's folk infused images display rich decorative line and bold pattern. Her work has been described as captivating meditations on life and death, nature and culture. Part tattoo, part Australiana, part folk and pattern, Madeleine's works take the eye on an excursion along a decorative, dark and highly idiosyncratic line.
